At the beginning of 2018, IMDA and Apple created the Swift Accelerator Programme. This initiative targets secondary school students who demonstrated an interest in computational thinking but who could not find the support or guidance they needed at school to take this passion to the next level. The aim was to uncover these gems and give them space,
opportunity and coaching to excel.
In April of 2019, 50 students from 17 schools were selected to join the Swift Accelerator Programme, delivered by Tinkeracademy. The programme, which was taught in Swift, required us to meet every Saturday for 4 hours to hone our skills and continue on the journey to become app developers. It gave us the opportunity to practice our storytelling, gain insights into commercial iOS app development and learn about the framework on brainstorming, planning, prototyping and evaluating our final project. We are also incredibly lucky to hear from international guests, Apple experts and notable Singaporean app developers throughout the programme.
Apart from attending classes, we constantly bounced ideas and learnt from each other as we are all avid coders. Friendships were forged over hours of code crunching and cups of hot chocolate! This intensive programme taught us how to strike a balance between schoolwork and having fun.
Join us as we celebrate our graduation and find out more about our journey and
the apps that we have created!
This program was extremely fun and interesting. I learnt new things such as table views, tab bars and collection views. These new skills that I learnt are very helpful to me in developing my own apps. For example, I have created an app based on a CRUD app that I learnt in this program. I have also gotten to know new people and made new friends. This program has benefitted me greatly both in the knowledge and social aspects. I hope to be able to return next year to help out.
